(Albuquerque, New Mexico November 19, 2020) –Cottonwood Mall partnered with local artist Nazario Sandoval (@wemfer on Instagram) to add color, texture and vibrancy to the outdoor space for the community to enjoy as part of The Canvas Project. The over 3000 square foot interactive portrait wall and entrance mural was completed this past Sunday, November 15, 2020. Located at the main entrance on the east side of the shopping center, the mural is meant to not only instill joy in the community but also encourages visitors to interact with it by taking a photo and posting it to social media.
Cottonwood Mall is temporarily closed to the public, however several retailers are participating in Retail To-Go, a curbside pickup program. Beginning November 16, 2020, shoppers can make purchases directly with participating retailers via phone, online or app, and safely pick up their purchases in the East parking lot near the newly installed mural. Cottonwood Mall is encouraging guests to stay in their vehicles and take a selfie with the mural in the background while waiting for their purchases. Photos uploaded to Instagram with the tags #cottonwoodcares @cottonwoodmall and @wemfer will be entered to win a gift card from various retailers. CLICK HERE for more details.
“At Cottonwood Mall, we’re always looking for new ways to bring movement, art and culture to our town center for our guests to experience,” said Debra Sherman, General Manager at Cottonwood Mall. “With such vibrant local talent here in Albuquerque, The Canvas Project is an opportunity to spotlight our area artists, support our local arts culture, while creating a unique experience that will leave our community feeling inspired.”
Through The Canvas Project, local artists have a space to feature their art within prominent areas of Washington Prime Group town centers across the country. While celebrating and supporting local artists is at the heart of The Canvas Project, it also provides an opportunity for the community to connect and grow together through art, emotion and imagination.
